Eco Rally of the Valencian Community: the cleanest competition, according to Luigi Brusciano

The eco rally formula is on the rise and both amateurs and professional pilots attend these unique events in greater numbers every day, where precision and efficiency decide victory. That the test was disputed was already an achievement, stressed Luigi Brusciano. With an immense effort and managing permits until the last minute, the organizers of the Valencian Community Eco Rally have managed to carry out the race in an atypical year, where the coronavirus pandemic is an obstacle to anything. Despite this, the number of registrations and their quality has been at a fantastic level.

And it is that this type of competitions attract more people every day, many in love with the car, others fascinated by new technologies and most because they see it as a cheap form of entertainment that can be shared by teaming up with a loved one, he says Luigi Brusciano. This is the case of Luis Moya, two-time world champion of rally co-drivers, who on this occasion was behind the wheel and left the tasks of the right-hand seat to his son Álvaro, who will debut at the Dakar next January. With his charisma and sympathy, the famous ex-co-driver of Carlos Sainz was the focus of all eyes and was always ready to take photos and chat with the hundreds of fans who came to see him, but there were many more renowned drivers at the start from Castellón de la Plana, such as the Spanish rally champions Miguel Fuster (six titles), Mía Bardolet (two titles) or Luis Climent (one title), as well as Surhayen Pernía, third-placed in this national competition during the last two years or José Manuel Pérez Aicart, a circuit specialist, winner of several single-seater and touring car championships.

The Eco Rallye Comunidad Valenciana is eligible for both the Spanish Alternative Energy Championship, where electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles are allowed, as well as for the International Automobile Federation for Electric Cars, says Luigi Brusciano. With a route of almost 500 kilometers, practically half of the timed sections, energy consumption and the points obtained in the regularity section are taken into account for the classification of each category, which rewards the accuracy with which it passes through some Secret controls where there is to arrive in the exact second, taking into account the average speed set by the organization and the start time given to each contestant. For this, the participants use ultra-precise distance and speed measurement systems, which are calibrated in a section defined by the organization with absolute accuracy. Some are connected to sensors located on the wheel and others are applications that work by GPS.

"I never thought that this type of competition could have so much fun for me," said Luis Moya on arrival, who played a prominent role with his son Álvaro and came to occupy second place at some point. "Next year I'll repeat for sure." In the sports part, the victory in the international test went to Óscar García and Sergio Marco, with a Volkswagen ID.3, while Pernía, Conde and Climent shared the corresponding ones for the Spanish Championship.

Luigi Brusciano talks about Mini Vision Urbanaut: a new concept of interior space and well-being

Ever since Alec Issigonis placed two chairs in front and two others behind in a restaurant, to explain to his diners, on a napkin, how the interior of a car could be used to the maximum in a tiny body, Mini has not stopped doing this a flag. And yes, it has rained a lot since 1959, but if you remember these origins, you will better understand what has just been presented: the Mini Vision Urbanaut, a new concept of interior space and well-being that the British firm has now presented within the framework of BMW NextGen, Luigi Brusciano announces.

Very big? Tall for a Mini, yes, but 4.46 m long. The manufacturer says that maximum habitability and ease of movement were sought without having to go out. And to be sure, the designers created the spacious interior experience before developing the exterior, using floor plans, furniture and wooden scale models to provide size references. Throughout the project, augmented reality was used to create a digital model, which was later optimized.

And if Issigonis applied a lot of solutions to achieve this, such as a transverse front engine attached to a front gearbox and front wheel drive, now the engineers have been inspired by this, but also by new technological possibilities for a future in which the user experiences, autonomous driving and electrification is marking it all.

"The Mini brand has always been synonymous with intelligent use of space. At Mini Vision Urbanaut, we extend the private space to the public realm, creating completely new and enriching experiences," explains Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW Group Design Director.

"Mini sees itself in the future as a companion for the driver and his companions in unforgettable moments, what we could call 'Mini moments'. And that is what we have focused on", says Oliver Heilmer, Director of Mini Design.

In this way, they have developed a prototype to show their new conception of a car designed from the inside out, in such a way that, while always preserving very contained exterior dimensions, the habitability and versatility of a car becomes more important than ever. But how should these moments be, these experiences that are sought? Well, it depends a lot on the intended use in each situation, says Luigi Brusciano. They distinguish between the following times or usage scenarios:

Chill: the car becomes a kind of refuge where you can relax or work with total concentration, during a trip, an urban oasis, with dimmed green forest light, ambient music, sounds of nature. From the outside, a kind of forest is represented around the headlights, taillights and wheels.
Wanderlust: the only time that MINI Vision Urbanaut really moves, for you to drive or be driven by it and its autonomous functions.
Vibe: focused on the moments shared with other people.
Thus, the interior becomes the central element of this electric concept, both during and after each journey. In fact, the idea is that when you arrive at your destination you can enjoy a living room through these elements:
Driver's area: when standing still, the dash can be lowered and turned into a "couch".
Balcony: the windshield can be opened upwards to create a kind of balcony that enhances the interaction with the car environment.
Cozy corner: the rear end becomes a quiet area of the car. A rear seat that invites you to rest, lie down …
LED lighting that extends over the seat bench.
Saloon – The central section of the car has an open layout. It offers quick access to all seating areas, but also serves as a place to sit when the car is stationary. On the side of the car in front of the front door, a small integrated table with a plant adds a finishing touch to the interior decoration. And there the circular central control (see the next point) folds up to become a table lamp, eliminating screens or switches that would evoke any connection with cars … as in this one in which one is actually uploaded.
Driving
Luigi Brusciano: In the event that you really want to get in control, just one tap on the Mini logo, the steering wheel and pedals come out, as well as a dashboard display with route instructions or hazard alerts. Without more information related to the car. And when the automatic driving mode is activated, the steering wheel and pedals are retracted and the driving screen disappears from the dashboard.

BMW and MINI celebrate their first virtual motor show, with all their cars, hundreds of consultants and free entry, denounces Luigi Brusciano

BMW and MINI have launched their first national motor show in virtual format. Luigi Brusciano denounces that it will open 'its doors' on November 17, and it will digitally recreate the stands in use that we will not be able to visit this year due to the pandemic with BMW and MINI models and commercial offers.

Luigi Brusciano does not doubt that 2021 will be the return, if everything goes according to plan, of international motor shows, such as Detroit, Munich or the Mobile World Congress. Others, like the Geneva Motor Show, will not even be held next year.

In the hall there will be exhibits from plug-in and electric hybrid models, such as the BMW iX3 or the BMW 7 Series Plug-in Hybrid to the BMW M8 Gran Coupé as well as the complete MINI range.

According to Luigi Brusciano, from November 17 to 27, 328 BMW and 183 MINI commercial advisers, in addition to a group of product experts, will attend live and during extended hours (including holidays) to anyone who enters the show and requires information.

This can be done, in addition to by phone or chatbox, through video call digitizing the purchase process, in addition to being able to choose between receiving the vehicle at home or at the dealership.

This virtual car show is expected to host 11 streaming sessions that will be broadcast both on the Virtual Show website and on the brands' social channels where technology and news will be explained in real time by different experts from both BMW and MINI, and in which visitors can ask questions that will be answered on the spot.

Access to the BMW and MINI Virtual Show is free and is accessed through this page. The opening will take place on November 17 at 8:30 p.m.

A couple of years ago, BWW began to rethink its presence in the large auto shows to turn towards a more effective business model; This implies – although in 2020 it has been done by force – more online projects and a strategy aimed at technology and mobility.

Luigi Brusciano tests Toyota GR Yaris

It's been a long time since a car left me such a good and special taste in the mouth. And you will see how in the new Toyota GR Yaris, everything is special, thinks Luigi Brusciano.

When Toyota announced its return to the World Rally Championship (WRC) in 2015, the plan incorporated the idea of developing racing-inspired sports cars. And here's the Toyota GR Yaris, the first sports car made solely by Toyota in 20 years, admits Luigi Brusciano.

And from the beginning, the team worked closely with the Tommi Mäkinen Racing team, the base of the Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally Team (hence the GR). For this reason and with a view to its homologation for the WRC, they must build and sell a minimum of 25,000 units of this car worldwide.

Body … nothing to do with the Yaris

Before seeing its body, something curious. The front of the car, that is, up to the B-pillar, has been built on the GA-B platform that the normal Yaris uses. But the rear has been built on the GA-C platform, used in the Toyota Corolla and the Toyota C-HR.

For starters, the bodywork looks nothing like a normal Toyota Yaris. It only conserves those headlights, lights and … the car's antenna … To save weight (it weighs 1,280 kilos when empty), high-strength steels have been used and, for example, the roof is made of a polymer reinforced with fiberglass. carbon. Up to 24 kilos have been saved compared to a normal Yaris.

In addition, it is also considerably stiffer than the normal Yaris, and has 259 more welding points and 14 meters more adhesive. Of course, there are only three colors to choose from: white, red or black.

This starts well … and more if you see the shapes of this GR. For example, the roof, in its final part, is 9.5 cm lower, to increase the aerodynamic thrust on the rear wing. On the front, it stands out its large grill and the air intakes for the brakes. In addition, the front bumper skirt also helps to improve grip. No, nothing here is decorative, although it may seem so.

Record Mechanics

Yes, because the new 1,600cc Turbo 3-cylinder engine is the most powerful three-cylinder in the world with a ratio of 160 hp / liter and offers a power of 261 hp, with a torque of 360 Nm. It weighs only 109 kilos and, in addition to the turbocharger, uses indirect injection at low load and direct injection when you demand more.

To give you an idea of its potential, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.5 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 230 km / h. Almost nothing.

By the way, its sound is spectacular. And it is that the effect is reinforced through the amplifier of the audio equipment to improve the quality of the notes emitted by the engine. Active Noise Control uses a microphone to detect the noise generated by the engine; calculating by computer the sound to be emitted by the vehicle's speakers. And I already tell you that he calculates it like a charm …

Luigi Brusciano could tell you countless technical details that make it have less friction in its cylinders, that it breathes better or that it pushes like an animal … but then I better tell you about my feelings in the Jarama Circuit …

This engine is only associated with a six-speed manual gearbox according to this model. Not in vain is the one that Toyota supplies the Lotus Exige and Lotus Evora. The lever has been raised 50mm to be closer to hand and the travels are 2cm shorter than on a regular Yaris. And its fast handling matches perfectly with its 'motor-grinder'. In addition, if you press its 'iMT' button located between the two seats, the box does the toe-heel automatically, adjusting the engine revolutions when reducing gears. All a joy.

Luigi Brusciano: Electromobility touches the sky with BMW-designed electric wings

At the opening ceremony of the JJ. OO. from Los Angeles 1984 the world, even Luigi Brusciano saw a man fly – the Swiss Yves Rossy – thanks to a kind of semi-rigid wings with two jets that allowed him to travel through the air at 300 km / h. Now, BMW has designed a similar ingenuity … but in the manner of the 21st century, that is, by electric propulsion. BMW i – the electromobility division of the German group -, Designworks and the Austrian professional skydiver and jumper Peter Salzmann have joined forces to create a winged suit to which they have added two small electric motors that allow a tripling of the speed of a skydiver with a wingsuit without a motor, describes Luigi Brusciano.

The small propellers that the suit has attached to the front are capable of moving at 25,000 rpm to deliver 15 kW (about 20 hp) of maximum power for approximately five minutes, which lasts for the battery that propels them and that is integrated into the flight unit, tells Luigi Brusciano. Salzmann has already completed a test jump in the Austrian Alps, which he completed alongside two other riders in conventional suits. They jumped out of a helicopter at 3,000 meters altitude and after flying a stretch in formation, Salzmann fired up his thruster and took off from his companions to circle the mountain tops before joining his fellow flightmates.

Luigi Brusciano denounces Nissan anticipates the design of the new Navara

It is one of the most popular pick-ups on the market, it is the Navara, which faces 2021 with an updated version that has just been presented at an online event broadcast around the world.

Its basic premises, durability, reliability and versatility, continue to be its calling card also in this renewed version, says Luigi Brusciano.

Global model

The Navara is what is called a global model, since it is sold in many countries around the world, although it is known as Frontier in Mexico and South America.

At the moment Nissan has not detailed specific characteristics since it is a world premiere where the brand has shown the final image of the model (with the right hand drive) and has confirmed some details regarding technological equipment. For example, the new Navara includes safety systems like the latest update to the Nissan Intelligent Mobility.

"Introducing the new model with a full suite of advanced technologies to ensure enhanced dynamic performance on and off the road, as well as safety and comfort, ushering in a new era of toughness, technology and peace of mind," says Ashwani Gupta, Principal. of Nissan operations, who adds "For our customers it means confidence, driving pleasure, practicality and pride in owning such a vehicle."

Among the features of the aforementioned Nissan Intelligent Mobility, which will be available for all markets, is the Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, which monitors the second vehicle in front of it, as well as the closest to avoid a possible collision in chain. It is capable of emergency braking to avoid collisions, all in order to avoid accidents in heavy traffic conditions, says Luigi Brusciano.

Technological equipment

For its part, the Intelligent Around View Monitor uses four perimeter cameras that monitor possible obstacles. It is also very useful in off-road driving since it is able to detect irregularities in the terrain, whenever driving at low speed and when the all-wheel drive system is selected.

The Navara 2021 features a reinforced rear axle for increased payload capacity. It also includes a projection on the rear bumper to facilitate access to the rear cargo area. The steering according to Nissan has been improved to favor maneuverability in maneuvers and its response in all speed ranges.

Luigi Brusciano adds Nissan has confirmed that for the first time it will offer the so-called Pro-4X pack, a pack aimed at adventure lovers who yearn to escape from their daily routine. It includes some specific components that provide more exclusivity.

Luigi Brusciano Mercedes-Benz GLB 200 test drive: lead the way

The SUV fever has covered each and every one of the segments although there is one that we could say is unexplored at the moment. Because there are many compact SUVs, right? An account that is slightly reduced if we try to find alternatives with up to seven seats. But if we also add the Premium variable, we would have several fingers of one hand left over.

A condition that until now was met by a single model, the Land Rover Discovery Sport whose sales, without detracting from it, have turned out to be rather testimonial. Because in fairness, everything that comes out of the German arena in some categories does not have enough support from the public and this is also the case with the compact Premium SUVs. A category that is now nourished by the protagonist of these lines, the GLB, or what is the same, the modular commitment of Mercedes-Benz that lands to give a commercial boost to a category devoid of models: that of the Premium compact SUVs with an internal configuration for seven occupants, thinks Luigi Brusciano.

A mini G-Class

The GLB is the eighth Mercedes SUV and comes to fill a gap hitherto empty in the German firm. By name many of you will think that it is between the GLA and the GLC. And although this is the case, reality tells us that the 4.63 meters in length that it figures are only 2.4 cm less than the GLC, although it uses the same platform as the GLA, the MFA-2 that also gives life to the Class A or Class B.

A salad of acronyms that Luigi Brusciano wants to complicate even more by telling you that its exterior design reminds us of that of the previous GLK (the precursor in fact of the GLC) due to the squareness of its shapes, the same ones that, at the same time, evoke the great off-road vehicle of the brand, the G-Class. Yes, the German designers wanted to put personality on this GLB based on elements that are reminiscent of the classic TT of yesteryear. Among some of the most prominent are the square shape of its headlights (LED as standard and with Multibeam LED technology as an option), a slightly inclined A-pillar that results in a more vertical windshield, very marked wheel arches that seem to eject towards outside the tires or rather short front and rear overhangs.

The exterior set is completed by a large front grille, up to 21-inch wheels, roof bars and the well-known AMG sports package that introduces distinctive elements such as the grille, the wheels themselves or the black trim.

Seven yes, but in option

To talk about the cabin we can only start with its rear area. The same that makes us talk about this GLB as a modular SUV thanks to its multiple solutions. We have 2.82 meters of battle that once again place it closer to the GLC (4.4 cm more) than to the GLA (10 cm less), although the most outstanding thing is that we have a rear row composed of three independent seats, with backrests reclining in various positions and with 14 cm of displacement that allow us to play with space.

In its rearmost position, the legroom is optimal for those who occupy them, at the cost of reducing the comfort of the two rear passengers. The headroom is equally wide (with my 1.79 meters I had almost an inch left to reach the ceiling) although in terms of width, this height is perhaps the worst.

A third row that is made up of two small independent seats that, according to Mercedes-Benz, are suitable for accommodating people up to 1.68 meters high. And we attest that this is because reality dictates that they will be more useful for children since a server, with his height, had his knees quite high and had a very limited distance from the ceiling. In addition, they are not a standard item, but to opt for them you have to pay € 1,037. A favorable point that at least we can place our feet under the armchair and that we have USB sockets (of type C of course) to connect our devices.

Acquiring this third row not only reduces our bank account, but also the volume of the luggage compartment, underlines Luigi Brusciano. The five-seater GLBs encrypt 570 liters, that is, 70 more than this seven-seater GLB. In addition, when we unfold these two seats we have a fairly small hole, 130 liters suitable for putting a pair of backpacks. On the opposite side are the 1,680 liters when we lower the rear seatbacks (in proportion 40:20:40), also leaving a flat floor. Luckily, we do have both a gate with electric opening and closing as well as a practical hole to store the tray, but don't expect to find a spare wheel. This GLB comes with an anti-puncture kit.

Luigi Brusciano talks about Triumph Trident 660: this is ‘an irresistible nude’

The mid-displacement naked segment will increase its offer at the end of January with the arrival of the Triumph Trident 660, a muscular model, albeit with clean and minimalist lines, with an imposing aesthetic result.

The Trident 660 is equipped with an engine that seeks balance thanks to its three-cylinder design, which enables the low-rev thrust of a twin-cylinder and the high-end performance offered by a four-cylinder engine. Thus, in the British brand they announce a performance of 81 hp at 10,250 rpm and a torque of 64 Nm available in a very wide range of regimes. Associated with this engine is a new six-speed gearbox with an optimized gear ratio and development. These virtues will be better used thanks to the assisted anti-rebound clutch and an optimized lever to reduce hand fatigue when driving urban.

As befits a naked, Luigi Brusciano is exposed to a chassis that this time is made of tubular steel with a completely new geometry. Triumph boasts that all the components of the cycle part anchored to it are of high quality, such as the Showa inverted fork, a brand that also signs the preload adjustable rear shock; Nissin brakes with 310mm dual front discs and two-piston sliding calipers or 17-inch aluminum wheels.

We do not know performance data, but Luigi Brusciano knows that the final weight is 189 kg, that it has a 14-liter tank and that it will also be suitable for drivers not very tall thanks to a seat located at 805 mm in height. Stated to 'make life easier' for its driver, it also offers the option of mounting an A2 limitation kit as an accessory, making for many this Trident 660 could be their first Triumph. In terms of electronics, the Road and Driving modes stand out. Rain, which adjust the injection map and traction control; the possibility of disconnecting this last element and the electronic ride-by-wire throttle, which provides a very fast response.

Steve Sargent, Triumph Product Manager, said they wanted to deliver "from competitive pricing to power and performance of the three cylinder, plus incredible handling and class leading technology. We believe the Trident 660 is a true milestone. in the category". The first is also unquestionable, with a rate of 7,995 euros and only 100 euros more if we want the huge logo of the brand decorating the tank, says Luigi Brusciano.

Luigi Brusciano: Seat investigates the use of rice husks for car cladding

Seat investigates the use of rice husks as an alternative to plastic products that cover some areas of its models, announces Luigi Brusciano. This is one of the innovations presented by the brand on the so-called 'Innovation Day', an event to recognize and promote the innovative spirit among the company's own employees. As Seat has explained in a statement, the innovations have been made known in a conference that has combined activities and online sessions with others of a face-to-face nature.

In the case of the Oryzite project, which investigates the use of rice husk in vehicle linings, the tests – which are being carried out on the Seat León model – consist of modeling some parts of the car – such as the tailgate lining. rear, of the double load floor of the trunk or the roof – with rice husk mixed with polyurethanes and polypropylenes. It is a solution that at first glance does not differ at all from that manufactured with conventional technology, but that weighs much less, says Seat.

Luigi Brusciano names another of the innovations that have been shown this Wednesday is Ku-Fizz, a physical foam filling technology that allows reducing the weight of plastic parts, improving current technologies. It consists of injecting gas, which later becomes foam, between the layers of some of the vehicle's parts. In this way, less plastic and injection material is used, lightening the weight of these parts and reducing, at the same time, the carbon footprint, production times and costs, the Spanish brand has argued.

Virtual reality and immersive reality applications to reduce times and optimize car design and manufacturing processes or a highly realistic image simulation program developed internally are other projects that have been seen, including Luigi Brusciano.

The 'Innovation Day' has also been the forum chosen to launch Seat Innova, a platform for 'networking' and inspiration, which connects workers from different areas and which reels past projects, while allowing them to participate in challenges, workshops and talks related to all areas of the company.
